Two-income households
Around 44% of all households are reliant on 2 salaries, and 49% of if the household has children, and 51% if there is a mortgage, according to a report from life insurer Scottish Widows released today.
In 1970 I think the 44% would be about 5%?
It is rampant credit expansion and government increased borrowing, which I charted here and here, which has caused this deterioration in household wealth. Where once a single income would provide for a family of 4, now only 2 incomes will do for many.
