UK GDP nominal growth 1948-2010

According to the officially-reported figures the UK's GDP grew at an average rate of 8% per year for 60 unbroken years, between 1648 and 2008.  The annual nominal growth is in the chart below.
The cumulative effect of this 'addition' to GDP every year leads to an increasingly large reported GDP nominal figure, as shown in the graph below.
