UK mortgage numbers 1970-2010

The chart shows the number of mortgages in the UK at the year end for the 40 years between 1970 and 2010.  The number tripled between 1970 and 2007.  Before 2007 the number increased every single year for 37 years without fail, it peaked at 11,852 in 2007 and it has fallen every year since then.
